L7D : SUNDAY            

TNIN : MONDAY

TLAT : TUESDAY

LARB3 : WEDNESDAY

LKHMIS : THURSDAY

JM3A : FRIDAY

SBT : SATURDAY

NB: if you know numbers from 1 to 7, it may help you to remember week days names except for FRIDAY :

WA7D ==> L7D  ( SUNDAY )

The word TNAYN refers to ” 2 ” ( we find it in numbers like 22 : TNAYN W 3CHRIN / 32 : TNAYN W TLATIN / 42, 52, … etc ) ==>  TNIN ( MONDAY )

TLATA ==> TLAT ( TUESDAY )

RB3A ==> LARB3 ( WEDNESDAY )

KHMSA ==> LKHMIS ( THURSDAY )

JM3A

SB3A ==> SBT : SATURDAY ( SATURDAY )

Months of the Year in Darija :

CHHAR WA7D : JANUARY
CHHAR JOUJ : FEBRUARY 
CHHAR TLATA : MARCH
CHHAR RB3A : APRIL
CHHAR KHMSA : MAY
CHHAR STA : JUNE 
CHHAR SB3A : JULY 
CHHAR TMNYA : AUGUST 
CHHAR TS3OUD : SEPTEMBER

NB: To know the dates of the religious events like RAMADAN, Moroccans take into account the 12 months of the Hijri Calendar ( Islamic Lunar Calendar ).

YOUMAYN = 2 Days

TLTAYAM = 3 Days

RB3AYAM = 4 Days

KHMSAYAM = 5 Days

STAYAM = 6 Days

SB3AYAM = 7 Days

TMNAYAM = 8 Days

TS3AYAM = 9 Days

3CHRAYAM = 10 Days

7DACHR YOUM = 11 Days

TNACHR YOUM = 12 Days

CHHAR = 1 month     ( You do not need to say WA7D CHHAR )

KHMSCHHOUR = 5 months

STCHHOUR = 6 months

SB3CHHOUR = 7 months

TMNCHHOUR = 8 months

TS3CHHOUR = 9 months

3CHRCHHOUR = 10 months

7DACHR CHHAR  = 11 months (7DACH + R + CHHAR) 

TNACHR CHHAR = 12 months (TNACH + R + CHHAR) 

NB :

  • In classical Arabic, we say CHAHR = Month and CHOHOUR = Months.
  • You may hear some people pronouncing L instead of R: 7DACHL (7DACHL piasa = 11 pieces) and the same thing until TS3TACHL (TS3TACHL ktab = 19 books).

Counting Years in Darija :

3AM   = 1 Year 

3AMAYN = 2 Years 

TLTSNIN = 3 Years 

RB3SNIN = 4 Years 

KHMSNIN = 5 Years 

STSNIN = 6 Years 

SB3SNIN = 7 Years 

TMNSNIN = 8 Years 

TS3SNIN = 9 Years
